Two months have passed and just now I feel like writing a new post about my daughter’s birthday party. My pregnancy started with zero symptoms is now full of those “pretty” moments of nausea, fatigue, dizziness. To be honest I’ve never been so sleepy and it’s even harder to keep my eyes open to do small tasks such as read a bedtime book to my little princess.
Well, as I have almost completed the first trimester I can feel a little bit more energy going through my body and finally I can have the patience and desire to write down the details about the party. First, I need to emphasize the fact that in Brazil, it is not custom to have a small party. I tried hard to do something smaller than my daughter’s first birthday party and I feel like I have accomplished my goal, at least a little bit.
A Special Birthday Party For A Little Wonder Woman
Although the guest list was much smaller than the previous year, I still worked hard on the details to create an amazing and creative event. The theme I chose was Wonder Woman Birthday Party; about superhero that I really like and it’s highly trendy now. Although this was my favorite party to plan, finding the stuff I needed was very complicated. Ironically, stores are filled with male themed superhero material but, when it comes to female related material, they only have themes pertaining to princesses and mermaids.
I was expecting to be able to find Wonder Woman decorations but I only found generic ones, which I got from Ebay along with my own costume. Therefore, I had to make a few things such as the logo I will have detailed next in another post. I started thinking of the pieces to put together in order to create the desired atmosphere. Red, blue, white and gold were part of the color palette. From that point I thought of a big panel to cover the wall behind the main table. I did not want to spend a lot on fabric, that I would hardly use after the party, so my option was Cambric fabric that you can buy at Walmart for a couple of dollars per yard.
DIY Wonder Woman Birthday Party Decor That Saved us Tons!
The panel was pretty easy to make. To save time I used fabric glue instead of sewing everything together. With that done, it was time to think of the centerpieces, cake and cupcake holders and trays. At Amazon I found some cute items that I had in mind for a very good deal, such as the Tinksky Muffin Wheels Holder to the darling White Metal Rounded Tray.
The Ferris Wheel Cupcake Holder also came from that marketplace and it only cost me $15.99. The down side on the item was that it came in the wrong color and I had a little bit of work to paint it gold. Another great find were the White Rectangle Tray Set ($24) and the 16’’ Long Clear Vases ($6 each) I bought from an amazing online store called Afloral. They are specialized in bridal supplies, decorations, floral and crafts and the most important they have awesome prices.
A Printable Cute Candy Cup / Liner
As I mentioned before, I had to make some of the items by hand for the party, including some of the candy cups. I think that the traditional designs we find in every single store are so boring and I really wanted something different, cute and elegant to match the party. So, I used a pattern to cut out of red and blue scrapbook papers the candy cups I needed. If you are interested in doing the same, just sign up for my newsletter right here and I will send out to you a printable version of them. Unfortunately, the time was short and I could not attach the Wonder Woman logo to the popcorn bags.
Regards to the food, it took me a week to make it all and I needed professional help to create an amazing cake, some cookies and cake pops. The recipe for some of the most delicious Brazilian candies for kid’s party comes next in another posts, stay tuned.
The two last items I need to speak of is my husband’s wardrobe and the cake stand. Well, I can’t actually consider what he wore at the party a costume but, knowing him so well I do, I was sure that he would strongly deny to wear a costume. So I find a great way to include him in the spirit of the party, a Superman T-shirt that comes with a removable red cape which you can easily buy from Walmart. Problem solved! Then it was time to find the right cake stand and nothing is better than a great promotion at Target for that. The stand wasn’t anything fancy but, very cute and matched well what with the other items and this was all that mattered.
I am happy I was able to register every detail of this cute party and mostly I am delighted for the happiness that this brought to my little Wonder Woman. She danced a lot, stole lots of candy and had so much fun with our family and friends.
Marie has an interesting personality, she never stops talking, she loves music and is very sociable by which her Brazilian personality comes to light. I can’t believe that she’s two. The time has flown by so quickly!
PS: I will apologize now for the insane amount of photos in this post and its length, but there were so many cute details I wanted share.
