As my husband works in our yard to create a useable and beautiful space for us to enjoy, I am already thinking of those little pieces of furniture to bring charm and comfort to the outdoor space. We are still far away from getting all the work done but nothing can prevent me from planning our back and front yards. I was inspired as much that I am sharing today on how you can update your current outdoor living area with just a few little details by taking advantage of the end of summer sales.

You might already have a patio that you may find boring and with no character but changing that doesn’t require a lot. With just a few pieces of furniture and decor, you can spruce it up or switch it out. It’s all about putting together the right pieces that will give you that HGTV style home yard. 

The best time of the year to save money on Outdoor Furniture & achieve your home improvement goals

This may be the best time of the year to remodel or renew your outdoors as so many stores are cleaning up their warehouses with some crazy deals. Rather you have a fenced yard, a tiny balcony or something in between, you always can take advantage of the season sales and update your space with furniture and decor that will make it cozier for you to enjoy for the rest of summer through fall and next year.

As I mentioned above, maybe you are stuck in a small, tiny space but there’s always plenty you can do to carve out a stylish outdoor area. Next year my plans are to soak up all the sunshine and fresh air as I enjoy a functional and yet attractive patio. 

While it may seem a little early (or late depending on your point of view) to tidy up your back or front yard remember that it’s always good to prepare ahead even when it comes to designing a space in your home. So if you have an area in your house that you want to remodel there is no better time than now when the prices are low.

But before you click “add to cart” you just need to consider a few things. First, you need to determine how you’re going to use the space you have. Do you like to entertain? Bring some friends over?  See yourself lingering over mocktails and conversation? Maybe a great sitting area with a sectional and a coffee table would be a good option for you. Do you plan to cook and spend some evenings having dinner outside? So a big outdoor table must be in your list. Do you love to roast some marshmallows around a fire pit? Add a bench or two. Have a small area? A pair of cushioned chairs and a small table would make the space more functional to you.

Second, make a scratch of what you want for your outdoors, with that in mind include the color palette. I suggest no more than three focal colors. Neutrals are always a good thing for being timeless and you certainly can spice it up the design by adding some details then you can easily replace once outdated, such as throw pillows and planters.

Third, visit some online stores and bookmark all the items that are within your color palette and design. Try to visualize all of them together (if you don’t have a design app) and see if it is something that in fact, meets your expectations in terms of functionality and style.

Fourth, Maybe you are a girl who likes bold designs rather than neutral tones. Either the way it’s always important to decorate outdoors areas by mixing materials, shapes, sizes, prints, etc. Now that we have covered the basics, let’s get to the good stuff.

Let’s start talking about outdoor lighting such as textile lanterns, pendant lights, and string lights are great to set up the perfect environment for your “GOOD TIMES” with your family and friends. 

Throw pillows are also a must-have to make your space appealing and charming. A simple trick with throw pillows is to create a harmonic space. This requires you to pick a pattern and color and then mix them up with other patterns that carry the same color palette. See Below. 

Always include in your home improvement list a few planter & Vases

A mix of garden planters and pots are also indispensable when it comes to decorating an outdoor living area. I am totally into the big ones, especially those planters that have some type of texture or pattern. You can go for the classic pots such as the ones made of stones in terra or muted colors but I personally love a bright and clean look white vase. You will love to fill them up with English Lavender not only because of its beauty and fragrance, but it will keep the mosquitoes away.

Hanging some string lights for ambiance is sure to make a statement on your patio. Combine this with some accent chairs, lanterns, and an outdoor area rug. I have listed here a few of my favorite outdoor decor items and I hope one of them will end up in your patio.
