DIY Homemade Chocolate Sugar Scrub
When I think of sugar scrub my mind automatically leads me to a brand name or the cheapest ones we can get at any drugstore. But, after reading a blog that I love I learned how beneficial this can be to your skin and decide to give it a try. First thing I like about making my own scrub is that I know what the ingredients are, if they are truly organic, chemical free, etc. The second thing that I adore about DIY Homemade Chocolate Sugar Scrub is how easy they are to make. Seriously, it won’t take more than five minutes of your time to mix up all the ingredients that you love most and done, you have an amazing product that would cost just a fraction of the price in stores. The third thing I like most about it is that It makes a great gift for your family members, friends and neighbors.
Here I am using a few baby food containers I saved from when Marie was just a little baby. During that time I had in mind to use them as a gift I would give on Marie’s one year birthday party to my guests. I did not know if I will use them for my second baby shower.
Well, certanelly you don’t know but, you probably have most of the ingredients in your pantry. For this project I used Organic Cane Sugar along with Essential Coconut Oil from DoTerra and other products. I have all of them listed below. Take a look!
DIY Homemade Chocolate Sugar Scrub Ingredients:
1 cup Organic Cane Sugar
1/4 cup coconut oil (almond or olive oil would also work)
10 drops coconut essential oil
2-3 drops Vitamin E oil
2 Tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1 Teaspoon Vanilla (optional)
(You can switch up the ingredients to create any scented combination you want; think Coconut Vanilla, Cucumber Mint, Strawberry Lemonade… the possibilities are endless!)
STEP 1: Organic Cane Sugar
Depending on the quantity of sugar scrub you are wanting to make, you may have to alter the measurements – just remember you want to use 75% sugar and 25% oil. For this recipe I made small batches using 1 cup of cane sugar and 1/4 cup of melted coconut oil for my baby shower gift.
STEP 2: Coconut Oil
Warm up the coconut oil in the microwave for 30 seconds (or until oil is in liquid form). Add to the sugar and mix well.
STEP 3: Coconut essential oil
For this recipe I used 10 drops of coconut essential oil and stirred that into the sugar/oil mixture.
STEP 4: 2-3 Drops Vitamin-E oil
I like this steps because Vitamin E is an amazing for skin. It make it feel softer and radiant. Perfect for this at-home-spa-treatment recipe!
STEP 5: Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
Lastly add 2 tablespoon of unsweetened cocoa powder to the other ingredients and stir well to incorporate. Transfer to an airtight glass container and store up to 3 months.
HOW TO USE:
- Wet your skin in the shower and generously apply the chocolate sugar scrub.
- Massage skin in a circular motion to allow the sugar to gently exfoliate and the coconut oil to moisturize. Enjoy the delicious scents of chocolate! It smells so good!!
- Rinse with warm water and pat dry with a towel.
- Apply your favorite body lotion.
As mentioned before this can be an amazing gift for a friend. You just have to find a cute container or decorate one you already have like I did. The lack of energy caused by this third trimester sometimes prevent me to follow my beauty routine. This scrub really helps me with that by keeping my skin soft and hydrated.
