Pocatello – Old Town Pocatello
I wish I had posted this before but after our trip to Idaho many things happened and I completely forgot to write about it. How could I forget to post about one of the most amazing things I’ve seen in my whole life? Maybe my memory is getting worse?
The first 2 days of our vacation we stayed in Pocatello, a small city that reminds you of a big metropolis full of those famous store chains. I did not explore it much as I wanted to. We only took a quick tour through the cute Old Town to see the charming of the 18th Century’s buildings. You can learn more about Pocatello here.
Traveling іѕ a fun activity for me, but for people like my husband іt’ѕ a рrеttу dаuntіng task, еѕресіаllу when you have a 22 month old baby coming along. Whеn traveling with сhіldrеn уоu nееd tо be patient and ѕhоuld knоw a few оld trісkѕ through whісh you саn keep them еntеrtаіnеd durіng thе whole trip.
When Marie was 4 months old we went on a road trip to Montana. Marie slept most of the time and the only inconvenience I had was the huge swollen cut on my abdomen, as I had recently undergone a surgery just a month prior, removing a fibroid tumor. Our recent trip to Idaho wasn’t bad either, however she was awake during the whole three hours . Here аrе a few tips which I fоllоw whеn trаvеlіng wіth mу lіttlе оnе tо make it еаѕу and соmfоrtаblе for both оf uѕ.
I was very surprised to find out that here in Utah we have a Swiss/German-Bavarian influence right in Heber-Midway, south of Park City. The architecture of the buildings there will make you feel as if you were in the middle of the Oktoberfest and you are about to spot someone walking down the street dressed up with those traditional Bavarian Tracht. I guess, if you really wanna see that you will have to wait until the Midway Swiss Days Festival, on Sep 1-2, 2017.
All the buildings are impressive and cute as doll’s houses and you won’t be disappointed if you want to take beautiful pictures with your family..
Well, our first stop was at the Zermatt resort and you can find some great room’s deals right here on Expedia. The hotel is super cute and it has a giant chess game at the little plaza in front of its entrance. Marie, of course, had a blast playing with the pieces that were not much smaller than her. At the same location you can find an interesting post that carries several arrows signs pointing the direction of different countries and their distance to Heber-Midway.
I’ve been living in Utah for seven years, and I had never heard about the Homestead Crater. Measuring 65 feet deep and with temperature of 90-95F year round, the crater is a must see. The water is not as hot as in Lava Hot Springs and you don’t need to be concerned about dehydration. You can swim around the 400 feet wide cavern, or just relax in the soaking area, it’s totally up to you. The dome has a custom-built deck, so the guests can better enjoy the mineral water.
The nice feature is that you don’t have to repel through the top to enjoy the natural geothermal hot pool as in the early 90’s the Homestead property decided to create a 110 foot long tunnel to make the crater more accessible.
What are the chances to find a western town in the middle of Utah? Well, just near the Wasatch mountains there is a cute little city called Heber that holds lots of surprises. At first you can think that there’s nothing else to see there than a beautiful landscape, but is actually one of those places that will blow out your mind.
We could start by speaking about the Crater at the Homestead, that is one of the most incredible things I’ve seen in this amazing state I call home, but that is already featured in another post . So, let’s talk about the Heber Old Town.
Established in 1849, the Heber Old Town is a place for those who enjoys trying good food, art and craft. Surrounded by charming farmlands, the place was once called Heber Creeper Railway Village. The rustic atmosphere and the roadhouse environment gives you the feeling of going back on time.
As a craft lover, I took a time to appreciate the red painted woods and the old architecture as you can get so much inspiration just by looking to its peculiar buildings.
Nothing fills out a mother’s heart more than when we see our kids having a good time. The day was bright with a gorgeous blue sky and Marie was very excited about spending some time in a warm swimming pool. Because the water there can be too hot for the little ones we had only one pool where our baby could get in without the risk of burning out her delicated skin.
While in the pool, we had to keep a water bottom near by as advised and make sure that us and baby Marie were being hydrated all the time. It’s , also, advised that you dont stay in it for very long but, take some time out of the pool, walk around and then come back as the natural water temperature there is between 1020 to 112º.
The greatest thing is that if you go during weekdays you are allowed to leave and come back whenever you want as long you do it in the same day of the admission purchase.
So, we went in the morning and stayed until around 1 pm. As it was almost time for Marie’s nap, we decided to leave the hot springs to go to Cafe Rio and then we went back to the hotel.
There is nothing that I love more than spending time with my family, specially when we can go out and see the beauty in this world. We had such a good time together in our small vacation of fours days to Idaho. The first two days we stayed in Pocatello, which is just 30 minutes away from the amazing Lava Hot Springs.
Although we tried to stay within Lava Hot Springs, as a small city they don’t have many great options when it comes to accommodations. The old big houses, turned into hotels, have overpriced rooms and most of them have no good amenities such as breakfast inclusion, pool , safe or cribs when you’re traveling with kids.
So we opted for Pocatello, which is not either a big city, but it has everything you need as if it was. Kohl’s, Target, Cafe Rio, Ulta, Walmart, etc and a vast options of hotels such as Red Lion, Hampton, Holiday Inn, Best Western, Ramada and La Quinta are just a few.
